July 2009: Newsletter Vol.2-No.4 Released
The newsletter focuses on 2nd JCC meeting held in Savannakhet on June 10, 6th Working Group meeting organized in Champhone District on June 11, new activities for privase sector encouragement as well as PTD-JICA Project Action Plan for 2009.

July 2009: New Brochure Created by PTD
In addtion to the 7 types of tourism brochures in 3 languages produced last year, a new brochure presenting all the major tourist sites in Savannakhet was created by PTD staff. The new brochure is expected to attract potential tourists in tourism exhibitions or other occasions taken place outside of Savannakhet Province.

June 2009: 6th Working Group Organized
The 6th Working Group was organized in Champhone District on June 11, 2009. Around 40 members visited 4 touirst sites/villages (Turtle Lake, Taleo Old Temple, Hotay Pidok and Monkey Forest) to discuss issues with villagers.
It was identified that the villagers could not get significant benefit of tourism due to inability of communication with foreign tourists, even though the number of visitors is increasing in general. Villagers do not know how to approach the tourism development.

June 2009: 2nd JCC Meeting
The second Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held in Savannakhet on June 10, 2009 with attendance of Vice Chairman of Lao National Tourism Administration (LNTA), Vice Govenor of Savannakhet Province, Director-General of Tourism Marketing and Promotion, LNTA, Director-General of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning and Investment and Resident Representative of JICA Laos Office.
Prior to discussion, all the members experienced one-hour walking tour in the historic downtown area to get concrete image of the tourism resources in Savannakhet.

May 2009: Tourist Information File Updated
Copies of Tourist Information File are distributed to major tourist facilites in Savannakhet: hotels, guest houses, restaurants, tour companies, etc. so that tourits to Savannakhet can easily get necessary information (transportation time tables, tourist sites, festivals, list of hotels, guest houses and restaurants, etc.) without spending time to go to public tourist information centers.
The first version was provided in January 2009. Now, the second version (Version May 2009) was distributed to the same tourist facilities and 8 new places in addition. As a result, Tourist Information File is currently available at more than 40 places in Savannakhet Province.

March 2009: Tourist Satisfaction Survey Completed
A comprehensive survey was conducted by interviewing 503 tourists visiting Savannakhet province between November 2008 and February 2009.
The interviewed tourists consist of 297 European or American tourists, 17 Asian other than regional tourists, 158 Thai or Vietnamese tourists, 29 Lao tourists and 2 non-indentified natinality tourists.
